Martin E. Hanaka is currently acting CEO of Guitar Center and was most recently the CEO of Golfsmith International, the world’s largest golf retailer. Prior to joining Golfsmith, Marty served as CEO of The Sports Authority and its Chairman from 1999 to 2004. He was President, COO and on the board of Staples, Inc. from 1994 through 1997, where he led the company during a rapid growth phase. He was formerly President of Lechmere, Inc. and served twenty years as an executive at Sears, including SBU Head for Sears Brand Central, Sears’ largest and most profitable business unit. Marty has served as a director on the boards of five public-traded companies and five private entities, including service as a Trustee and a National Governor of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. A graduate of Cornell University, Marty formerly served as a member of the Cornell University Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Council and the Cornell University Council.
