About the cause
Working tirelessly in slums to overcome poverty, through training and joint action of its inhabitants and young volunteers, promoting community development, denouncing the situation in which they live the most excluded communities and advocating with others policy.
In 1997 a group of youths began working for the dream of overcoming the poverty in which millions of people lived. The sense of urgency in the settlements the massively mobilized to build emergency homes in partnership with families living in unacceptable conditions and dump their energy in looking for concrete solutions to the problems that communities faced every day solutions.
This initiative became an institutional challenge today is shared across the continent. Since its inception in Chile, followed by El Salvador and Peru, the organization began its expansion under the name "TECHO".
After 15 years of work, TECHO maintains operations in 19 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay , Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. It also has offices in the US, as well as in London, England.
